Hello! I am Jeremy Bogen. Below this text is a picture of me when I was little during a halloween day dressed as a prisoner (I forgot my age at the time .) I’m 18 now and an undergraduate student at the City College of New York. Throughout my time in high school, I had been under the influence of generic standard writing; overperformative and boring for the sake of getting good grades in my English class. Over time I started to not enjoy English classes as much because of this requirement in writing. But when I made it to college, my entire perspective of writing in school had changed. My professors taught me about the concept of “writer’s voice” and how it is appropriate and beneficial if you use your own voice in writing, contrary to the educational belief I had in high school. And for the first time, writing didn’t feel like such a chore. Writing in college was something I was interested and invested in, and the main works you will see in this portfolio are some of my best examples of this being put into play. FIQWS gave me an opportunity to hone in on and improve on already known writing techniques, and even gave me some new ones to add to my bag. And for that, I would like to thank BOTH of my FIQWS professors for giving me enjoyment in writing.
